Okay, so the producers didn't go and hack the head off a former-US President just for the show, but they did sculpt a George W. Bush head and shoved it on a spike alongside Ned Stark's. 'It's just.. We had to use what heads we had lying around,' explain Benioff and Weiss on the DVD commentary, joking that the head had been used dotted around in several scenes, though controversy exploded after it was brought into the public domain. HBO have profusely apologised for the inclusion, while the two creators released a statement saying: 'We use a lot of prosthetic body parts on the show: heads, arms, etc. We can't afford to have these all made from scratch, especially in scenes where we need a lot of them, so we rent them in bulk. After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W Bush. We meant no disrespect to the former president and apologise if anything we said or did suggested otherwise.'
